INTERNATIONAL RAIL FREIGHT

Rail in the middle.
Connections at both ends.

Rail is one part of a connected transport chain. Cargo acceptance, terminals, inland collection and destination handovers all belong in the initial discussion.

01

Review the route and the cargo together

The same cargo may face different conditions on different rail routes. Feasibility depends on the origin, destination, transit requirements, terminals and the relevant operators’ acceptance.

For dangerous goods, a broad class description is insufficient. The UN number, SDS, packaging, quantity and full route must be reviewed. Classes 1 and 7, and other restricted cargo, need specific assessment; some services may not accept them.

02

Connect rail with the actual collection and delivery

Discuss how the cargo reaches the origin terminal and how it leaves the destination terminal. Customs formalities, transfer points and receiving conditions affect the scope and timing.

Tank containers by rail are an industry reference on this site, not a claim that every tank or chemical cargo can use every rail service. Equipment, cargo compatibility and route acceptance need individual confirmation.

03

Information for a rail enquiry

  • Exact origin and destination, preferred schedule and trade terms.
  • Cargo name, packaging, quantity, dimensions and gross weight.
  • UN number, class and SDS where applicable.
  • Collection, customs and final-delivery requirements.

LET’S MOVE FORWARD, TOGETHER.

Bring your cargo.
Let’s discuss the next connection.

Start with the route, cargo and the handover you need. Carriage remains subject to shipment-specific review.
